Cultural Excursions
Terlingua is
our chosen base because it's singularly special and there are so many
wonders within a stone's throw. There are too though, a multitude of
contrasting attractions within the wider region. These "excursions" then
are forays for traveling a bit further than a day trip, ones that can
complement and enrich immeasurably your overall appreciation of the
area. There is a surprising degree of variety within the area, in
terrain, history and culture. Most folks don't associate Texas with
forested mountains, natural pools, observatories, galleries, etc. They
are here though, as well as other surprises that await your discovery.
We suggest that you consider the excursions for the middle of your trip, as
it seems to make for an enhanced mental "rhythm" --it's always nice to
feel like you're coming home. We can thus do some exploration from
Terlingua, then head out for a longer loop before returning to familiar
territory.
Like anywhere, to partake of all takes more time than most of
us have. These are but a sampling of ideas, with longer combinations
delightful too. In the summaries below, the bold-type destination
indicates the overnight locations, with more details available at the
link for each. Apologies for the repeated verbage of the duplicate
destinations, but the mini-itineraries are made to be printed out for
travel . . .
