Abbreviated Itinerary:

Day   1     Anchorage - Denali: travel north towards Denali Park; afternoon hike in the Alaska Range, near Denali State Park; private camp overlooking Jack River

Day   2     Denali Natl. Park: full day natural history and wildlife tour into the center of the Park; late afternoon hike on the outskirts, Jack River camp

Day   3     Denali - Meier's Lake: traverse spectacular Denali Hwy (gravel); afternoon hike alpine ridge of Maclaren Summit; optl. hike to Gulkana Glacier; cabins and showers!

Day   4     Meier's Lake-Eagle: Travel to Eagle on the Yukon; stops at Delta Junction; Tok and Chicken; visit abandoned gold dredge; overnight in the historic cabins in Eagle where famous Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen spent the winter.

Day   5     Eagle-Dawson City, YT: Morning tour of Eagle and Fort Egbert; cross spectacular "Top of The World Highway" to Dawson City with a stop in Boundary; ferry across the Yukon River; dinner on the town; overnight in a B &B.

Day   6     Dawson-Yukon River: Morning Robert Service reading (optional); museum visits; late afternoon canoe/kayak departure on the mighty Yukon River; float past steamboat graveyard; three hour paddle/float to river camp.

Day   7     Yukon River: AM river departure; explore abandoned homestead; working subsistence homestead visit; overnight at abandoned Gold Rush town of Forty Mile.

Day   8     Yukon River: River travel through "Dozen Islands", past subsistence fish camp; arrival at island camp near Canadian-US border; short hikes recommended

Day   9     Yukon River-Eagle, AK: Morning river departure, arrive Eagle, Alaska (showers!); optional hike to top of Eagle Bluff; dinner; overnight in Amundsen cabins in Eagle

Day   10     Eagle-Gakona: Travel to the Copper River Basin via Mentasta Pass; great bluff camp on Copper River overlooking volcanoes of Wrangell-St. Elias Park.

Day   11     Gakona - McCarthy: Leave Alaska Range and head into Wrangell-St. Elias National Park; cross Kennicott River to reach private riverside camp; afternoon hike over glacial terminal moraine; explore McCarthy

Day   12     McCarthy/Kennicott: travel four miles to abandoned town/mine of Kennicott; exploration; hike to the Root Glacier; picnic lunch; evening hike w/flightseeing optional; riverside camp.

Day   13     McCarthy-Valdez
morning open for hiking or just plain relaxation; late afternoon park departure to cross alpine beauty of Thompson Pass, descending to Valdez on Prince William Sound; dinner on the town; overnight B & B

Day   14     Valdez-Hope: board ferry for spectacular trip across Prince William Sound to Whittier, passing Columbia Glacier; drive through mountain tunnels; road through Kenai Mtns. to end of the road frontier town of Hope; overnight in Discovery Cabins along Bear Creek

Day   15     Seward-Hope: morning trip to Seward; board vessel for spectacular day tour of Kenai Fjords National Park to view marine life and glaciers; afternoon return through Moose Pass; overnight in creekside Discovery Cabins

Day   16     Hope-Anchorage:   Optional goldpanning; travel to Girdwood; rainforest hike along Winner Creek or optional tram ride to top of mountain; lunch at Alyeska Bakery; late afternoon return to Anchorage
